Anouncements

  • Final grades are posted
  • Thanks for a great year, probably the best of the four years I have taught.  I gave the kids surveys to evaluate how I did.  Surprisingly, many kids were pleased with the class, what they learned, and actually are more interested in social studies then they were before. Here are some things they didn't like that I will work on:
  1. Instructions need to be clearer.  I tend to say instructions too fast.
  2. Notes and tests are too long.  I'm going to go back into my notes and see if I can shorten them up, thus shortening the tests as well.

Have a great summer!!

  • Please ask your child the following every single day
  • "WHAT DID YOU DO IN COUGAR SKILLS?"
  • "What is due tomorrow?"
  • "Do you have it completed?"
  • "Did you remember to turn in your assignment today?"

5 Tips if your child wants to earn an "A" or "B":

1.  Don't be absent!!!  In my opinion, more then two absences per quarter is too many.  I allow them time to turn in absent work but absences make the class ten times harder then it should be.  ABSENCES KILL GRADES!!!

2.  When they take cloze-notes that day, review them when they come home that evening.  Takes 5 minutes.

3.  Do their homework!!! Their only homework 95% of the time is studying for quiz/tests and completing vocabulary sheets.

4.  Write down assignment due dates

5.  Keep their notebooks organized!! All handouts must be hole-punched and put into the rings of their three-ringed binder
